We tried something new a few years ago with a climbing overnight. It was the first time we had tried something like that and it ended up being a great success. This has now become a popular event and the folks who have done it, eagerly look forward to the next time we can go. We have visited Boulder Morty's and Metro Rock in past. We'll be going closer to home this year and climbing at Central Rock. Generally, we try to make this event an adult partner/scout event. While almost all of the other events we do as a pack are open to the entire family, we try to make this one just for the Scouts.

Boulder Morty Trip Report |
|
The event started at 6:00pm. Most of the Scouts and their parents started arriving between 5:30 and 5:45. Most of the Scouts were wide eyed as they sized up the challenges in front of them. After a brief saftey demonstration, we started climbing. Most of the Cubs seemed a little tentative at first, but then as they watched their friends inch a little higher each time, and they heard the shouts of encouragement from each other, all of them were soon climbing all the way to the top of the wall! Soon the parents were getting into act and hopping on the wall themselves...
We broke for a quick dinner of pizza and then were back on the wall for some more climbing. As the night wore on, we stopped climbing in favor a movie and then lights out. A quick breakfast in the morning was followed by some last minute climbing before the event came to a close at 8:30 in the morning. The scouts left wanting to come back the next day!
It was amazing watching all the scouts gain confidence in themselves as they overcame the various hurdles on the wall. We had scouts from all ages, Tigers and Wolves all the way up to WebelosIIs on the wall. (And some older "Cub Scouts" as well!!)
The picture gallery from the event tried to capture some of the fun we had last spring.

Yes, we need some volunteers to help Belay.
A Belayer helps the climber to climb safely up the wall and then helps the climber return to the ground.
No. We understand that some parents and scouts have committments that prevent them from staying the night. It is ok to come for the climbing on Saturday night and leave in time to make their committments.
We'll have a pizza dinner. A small snack before bedtime and a simple breakfast on Sunday.
