Why we wear uniforms

The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. There are many reasons for this. One reason stands out above all the rest. We wear the uniform because it is a means of identifying ourselves openly with the principles to which we are committed-character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness.

The fact that youth and adult members of Scouting wear a uniform doesn't mean that we're all alike. We come from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. We have our own religious beliefs and political views. We are each individuals with our own family traditions and loyalties. So the uniform is not intended to hide our individuality. But it is a way we give each other strength and support. It is a bond that ties us together in spite of our differences. It is a way of making visible our commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and to helping other people.

The Scouting movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform, we are openly identifying ourselves with those values where everyone can see us. We stand together, not alone, in encouraging others to live by those same principles. Boys and adults alike should take pride in belonging to such a movement and wear the uniform as it is intended.

Where to get the uniform

There are three places to get get the uniforms. Two are local and the third is online.

Offical Pack 55 uniform

The Pack 55 uniform includes:

  • Blue and Gold Cub Scout Shirt (with required patches)
  • Neckerchief and slide
  • Scout Belt
  • Hat (Optional)
  • Cub Scout pants are not required, you may wear clean blue jeans.

Webelos may choose to wear the Blue and Gold uniform or they may switch to the tan Boy Scout Uniforms. As of August 1 2008, the BSA switched to the Centennial Uniform. For the Webelos, the biggest change is the forest green unit numerals.

Leaders will wear the tan Centennial BSA Uniforms with blue shoulder loops.

Uniform Types

When you watch our pack, you will see us wear a couple of different styles of uniforms.

Blue and Gold Class A

cs_uniform.jpg

The Blue and Gold Class A uniform is the traditional uniform worn by the Tiger, Wolf, Bear and some Webelos Scouts. This uniform is worn at formal events like the pack meetings, den meetings and parades.

Centennial Class A

The Centennial Class A uniform is worn by the older Webelos Scouts and the Adult Leaders. This uniform is worn at formal events like the pack meetings, den meetings and parades.

Typically, the scout has outgrown his orginal uniform when he is a Webelos Scout. When that happens, it is a good time to transition to the tan BSA uniform.

ClassB
